Leech Lake land transfers and access

If enacted, the bill would let more National Forest land in Cass County, Minnesota, be transferred to the Leech Lake Band. The Forest Service would have to substitute equal acres in Cass County for parcels to be transferred, avoid in‑holdings, and, where possible, prefer land next to existing Leech Lake trust or culturally important lands. The Secretary would be allowed to transfer substitute land to the Secretary of the Interior on a rolling basis as surveys are completed, and maps and legal descriptions would have to be submitted. The bill would reaffirm Minnesota law to keep non‑Tribal hunting, fishing, and recreation rights unchanged and would record that the Tribe does not intend immediately to modify use of the Federal land.
