This bill would let the President act if Australia overcharges or blocks U.S. Wagyu. The President could set a U.S. tariff on Australian Wagyu equal to Australia’s duty, or based on Australia’s non-tariff barriers. The President could choose a lower rate, or raise it later to match Australia. The President could also negotiate with Australia to cut duties or barriers, and must end higher U.S. duties if Australia removes theirs or if it hurts the U.S. economy. If passed, this could help U.S. Wagyu producers but may raise costs for importers and diners buying Australian Wagyu.
