Sponsored By: Representative Norman

Introduced

Summary

This bill would require a special resource study to assess whether the Camden Battlefield Area, including the 1780 Battle of Camden site and Historic Camden, should become Camden National Battlefield Park. The study would evaluate the area's national significance and whether National Park designation is suitable and feasible. It would identify ways to protect and interpret the site, assess local partnership models and the transferability of current management, and estimate federal costs for development, interpretation, operation, and maintenance. The Secretary of the Interior would consult federal, state, local, private, nonprofit, and other interested parties and report results to the House and Senate natural resources committees within three years after funds are first made available.

Park study for Camden battlefield

This bill would require the Interior Secretary to study the Camden Battlefield area in South Carolina. The study would judge its national importance and whether it should become "Camden National Battlefield Park." It would review protection and visitor education options, possible partners, and estimated federal costs to develop, operate, and maintain the site. The Secretary would consult federal, state, local, private, and nonprofit groups and follow federal study rules. A report to Congress would be due no later than 3 years after funds are first made available. This would only order a study; any park creation would need later action.
