Michelle Alyssa Go Act

Sponsored By: Representative Goldman, Daniel S. [D-NY-10]

Introduced

Summary

The Michelle Alyssa Go Act would exempt small, accredited mental health and addiction treatment facilities from Medicaid's definition of an "institution for mental diseases." It sets national, evidence-based standards and requires substance use disorder programs to meet standards like those from the American Society of Addiction Medicine once approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

More Medicaid mental health care at small facilities

If enacted, Medicaid could pay for inpatient mental health care at more small facilities. The facility would need 36 beds or fewer and meet national, evidence-based standards approved by the Secretary. If it treats substance use disorders, it would also need addiction-treatment standards. These changes would start 180 days after enactment and apply to state Medicaid plans then.
