More opioid treatment in rural areas

If enacted, this would create the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program to expand prevention, treatment, and recovery services in rural areas. HRSA's Administrator would run the program and would be able to award grants or cooperative agreements. Eligible applicants would include States, Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations, State offices of rural health, and other domestic entities. Grants would fund planning, evidence-based care models, technical assistance, evaluations, and responses to new public health issues, but would not be used to buy or improve real property. Awards would be for no more than five years and HRSA would be able to fully fund an award when made. The bill would authorize $165 million for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2030. Applications would need to describe how the local rural population will be involved in developing and running the funded activities.
