Keep housing vouchers when moving

If enacted, you would be able to keep your tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher when you move outside your public housing agency's geographic area. This would apply to families who receive tenant-based assistance on or after January 1, 2026. Your public housing agency would have to continue paying rental help unless the rental-assistance cost for the new unit is more than 10% higher than the cost for your prior unit. An agency could stop assistance only when that new assistance cost exceeds the prior cost by over 10%.
