HR7333119th Congress

Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act of 2026

Sponsored By: Representative McBath

Introduced

Summary

Would expand and fund nationwide domestic violence prevention and survivor services by updating the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act and related Violence Against Women Act authorities. The bill would modernize definitions, require nondiscrimination and confidentiality protections, create national technical assistance and resource networks, and set new funding rules and set‑asides for States, Tribes, coalitions, hotlines, and culturally specific programs.

Show full summary
  • Families and survivors: Increases support for trauma‑informed residential and nonresidential services, funds culturally and linguistically appropriate programs, and backs 24‑hour hotlines and digital services for survivors and callers.
  • Tribal, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities: Reserves at least 12.5% of the $270 million annual authorization for tribal grants and creates a dedicated National Indian Domestic Violence Hotline grant with tailored application and cultural requirements.
  • States, coalitions, and prevention efforts: Raises the formula grant base to $600,000 per State and directs at least 70% of remaining formula funds to States, while creating the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership program and boosting national resource and technical assistance centers.

*Would authorize about $270 million a year for FY2027–FY2031 plus additional dedicated funding, including $10 million a year for teen dating projects and $5 million a year for culturally specific services, thereby increasing federal spending over that period.*
