Broadband Deployment and Economic Impact Study Act of 2026

A federal study of broadband technologies and their costs. This bill would require the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information to study how different technologies provide broadband internet access. The study must examine fiber‑optic cable, cable modem, digital subscriber line, fixed wireless, 4G and 5G mobile wireless, low‑Earth orbit satellites, and geostationary satellites. For each technology it would report workforce needs, deployment economics, geographic suitability, speeds and latency, capacity, expected equipment lifespan, and consumer costs for monthly service and required devices. The Assistant Secretary would submit the report to Congress within one year after enactment.
