Examining Opioid Treatment Infrastructure Act of 2026

Sponsored By: Representative Foster, Bill [D-IL-11]

Introduced

Summary

This bill would require a national assessment of inpatient and outpatient treatment capacity for opioid-use disorder. It directs the Comptroller General to produce a report within 24 months that inventories detox, stabilization, residential, and specialty outpatient programs, examines geographic and demographic gaps including programs for pregnant people, adolescents, and American Indians and Alaska Natives through Indian health programs, counts patients and unmet need, evaluates access to evidence-based treatments including FDA-approved medicines and nonpharmacological therapies, and identifies barriers to real-time, de-identified overdose reporting.
