Introduced
Summary
Secure and expand market access for U.S. food and agriculture. The bill would urge Congress and the Administration to work urgently on trade policies that reopen markets, enforce existing agreements, and remove non-tariff barriers.
Show full summary
- Farmers and ranchers would get a push for new export opportunities and dispute enforcement to help counter a 9% drop in export value in 2023 and a USDA forecasted $37 billion food and agriculture trade deficit for 2024.
- Exporters and agricultural manufacturing workers would see stronger support for comprehensive trade agreements and trade promotion programs to grow overseas sales. U.S. food and agriculture exports totaled nearly $200 billion in 2023 and agricultural manufacturing is almost 20% of U.S. manufacturing jobs.
- The bill would also stress the sector’s broader importance and global role by promoting science-based rules in international bodies. The food and agriculture sector generated about $9.6 trillion in economic output and the United States is the largest donor of international food assistance.
