Sponsored By: Representative Connolly, Gerald E. [D-VA-11]
Introduced
Summary
Designates April 2025 as Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month to promote public education and encourage early detection of esophageal cancer. It would urge federal, state, and local governments, nonprofits, and the media to raise awareness about risk factors such as chronic heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease, note that Barrett's esophagus can raise cancer risk about 30-fold, and promote screening, research, and support so more people are diagnosed early when five-year survival can be as high as 49 percent.
