HRES95119th Congress

Recognizing the significance of the Greensboro Four sit-in during Black History Month.

Sponsored By: Representative Adams

Introduced

Summary

Recognizing the Greensboro Four for igniting student-led sit-ins that helped drive the civil rights movement. This bill would honor Joseph McNeil, Jibreel Khazan (formerly Ezell Blair, Jr.), Franklin McCain, and David Richmond for refusing service at the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter on February 1, 1960, note that the sit-ins spread nationwide to over 700,000 participants and led to more than 3,000 arrests and the formation of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, underscore the value of racial and ethnic diversity, affirm sit-ins as an effective form of nonviolent protest, and encourage states to include the Greensboro Four in school curricula.
