Sponsored By: Senator Warner, Mark R. [D-VA]

Introduced

Summary

A GAO report on esophageal cancer spending and screening in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. This bill would require the Comptroller General to evaluate how much the Program spends on esophageal cancer care and how often high-risk enrollees receive guideline-based screening. The bill stresses that esophageal cancer cases and deaths are rising, survival is low when diagnosed late, and early detection can raise 5-year survival as high as 49 percent for early-stage disease.
