MACV–SOG Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Senator Budd, Ted [R-NC]
Introduced
Summary
A single Congressional Gold Medal honoring MACV–SOG service. This bill would authorize presentation of one gold Congressional Gold Medal to members of the Military Assistance Command Vietnam–Studies and Observations Group for bravery and service in South Vietnam, North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia during the Vietnam War. The Secretary of the Treasury would strike the medal with an appropriate design and give the gold medal to the Smithsonian for display and research, with a recommendation it be shown at MACV–SOG‑related locations. The United States Mint could strike and sell bronze duplicates to cover costs, and the Mint Public Enterprise Fund would pay and receive amounts needed for production and sales.

Mint could sell bronze medal copies
If enacted, the Treasury would be able to strike duplicate bronze copies of the single Congressional Gold Medal authorized for MACV–SOG. The Mint would be allowed to sell those bronze duplicates at prices sufficient to cover production costs, including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and overhead. Money from those sales would be deposited into the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund. The Mint Fund could also be charged for amounts needed to pay the costs of striking the medals.
