New Senate NATO observer group

This bill would create a Senate NATO Observer Group to advise the Senate on NATO matters. In the 119th Congress the Group would operate as the majority and minority leaders set in the Congressional Record. Starting in the 120th Congress each leader would appoint up to seven Senators and name one co-chair within 60 days of the session start. Each co-chair and one staffer could travel abroad for official purposes if the other co-chair approves. The Senate Office of Interparliamentary Services would provide administrative and protocol support. Beginning on enactment, co-chairs could use funds under the foreign currency law (22 U.S.C. §1754) for activities critical to the Group. The Group would send yearly reports to Senate leaders and to the chair and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on travel, legislative efforts, and public diplomacy during the prior fiscal year.
