Medicare audiology coverage and costs

This bill would add "audiology services" to Medicare starting January 1, 2027. Audiology services would include hearing and balance tests and, beginning January 1, 2027, treatment when provided by a qualified audiologist. Qualified audiologists could furnish these services without a physician referral or physician supervision, and Rural Health Clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers could list them as permissible practitioners. For these services Medicare would pay 80% of the lesser of the provider's actual charge or the Medicare fee-schedule amount; you would pay the remaining 20% coinsurance. The bill would also say it does not expand payable audiology or related services beyond what was payable on December 31, 2026.
