Cancer study for military aircrew
The law requires VA to arrange a National Academies study on cancer among people who served as fixed‑wing aircrew (pilots, navigators, weapons operators, and similar roles). VA must seek the agreement within 30 days of enactment and finalize it within 60 days after talks begin. If VA misses that 60‑day deadline, it must tell Congress why and brief them at least every 60 days. The study reviews aircrew exposures and links to cancers like brain, lung, prostate, melanoma, lymphoma, and others, and estimates prevalence and deaths using VA, DoD, CDC, and prior study data. When finished, the National Academies must report results to VA and to the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
