Regular wildfire risk reviews for communities
If enacted, the Secretaries of Agriculture, Interior, and Homeland Security would jointly do a nationwide wildfire review. The review would measure changes to built and natural environments and how those changes affect prevention, incident response, and recovery. It would also analyze wildfire and public health in coordination with the EPA and HHS (through CDC). The agencies would send a joint report to relevant congressional committees within 1 year after enactment and every 4 years for 20 years. Each report would give review results and administrative outcomes; summarize expected wildfire challenges for the next 20 years; recommend federal laws and agency actions; evaluate progress toward the 2014 national strategy goals (with the 2023 updates) and the ON FIRE recommendations; and present future scenarios to guide program, strategy, capability, and workforce realignment.
