Help enrolling and mental health for veterans
If enacted, the VA Solid Start program would be required to help eligible veterans enroll in VA patient enrollment when they choose to do so. It would also have to educate veterans about Veterans Health Administration mental health and counseling services. The change would take effect upon enactment.
More mental health info at transition
If enacted, the Transition Assistance Program would be required to give separating service members detailed mental health information. It would list services from the Defense Department, VA, and nonprofit groups. It would cover PTSD, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, sleep problems, and suicidal thoughts. It would explain suicide risk signs and risk factors, including adverse childhood experiences, bipolar disorder, homelessness, unemployment, and relationship strain. It would describe substance-abuse treatment options for alcohol, prescription drugs, and opioids. It would explain loss of community, isolation, and stressors tied to leaving the military. The change would take effect upon enactment.
