Buffalo Soldiers Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Senator Kim, Andy [D-NJ]

Introduced

Summary

Establishes a one-time Congressional Gold Medal honoring the Buffalo Soldier regiments and recognizing their service. The bill would authorize Congress to award a gold medal, with the Secretary of the Treasury designing and striking the medal. After the award the gold medal would be given to the National Museum of African American History and Culture for display and research and could be shown at related events. The Secretary could strike and sell bronze duplicates at prices that cover production costs. The medals would be national medals and treated as numismatic items. Costs may be charged to the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund and proceeds returned to that fund. The bill’s findings recount the regiments’ formation, service roles, and honors.
