Only nonprofits could run political funds
This bill would limit who can run separate political funds. Only nonprofit corporations (groups described in IRC section 501(c) and exempt under 501(a)) could maintain such funds. Corporations could only solicit donations from executive and administrative personnel, not stockholders or their families. Government contractors would be treated the same as nonprofit corporations for these rules. These changes would take effect on the date of enactment.
Nonprofit rule forces some PACs to close
This bill would require any separate political fund that existed at enactment and is not a nonprofit's fund to terminate. Those funds would have to disburse their entire balance no later than 1 year after the date of enactment. The rule applies only to funds that were established and operating under the referenced law when the bill becomes law.
