Equal Employment for All Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Senator Warren, Elizabeth [D-MA]
Introduced
Summary
This bill creates a nationwide ban on employers using consumer credit reports that bear on a person's creditworthiness for hiring or adverse employment decisions. It keeps narrow exceptions for jobs requiring national security clearance and when a law specifically requires a credit-based report, and it preserves existing disclosure and notice steps for consumer reports.

Ban credit checks for most jobs
If enacted, employers would be barred from getting or using consumer reports that show your creditworthiness for hiring. The ban would apply even if you consented to the check. Exceptions would allow checks for jobs needing a security clearance or when a law requires them. Employers could not refuse to hire, promote, or fire you for refusing authorization. Consumer reporting agencies could not give these reports to employers except under those narrow exceptions. Existing FCRA disclosure and adverse-action notice rules would still apply when relevant.
