A bill to delay the implementation of a rule relating to the importation of sheep and goats and products derived from sheep and goats, and for other purposes.

Pause on sheep and goat import rule

If enacted, the bill would stop the Agriculture Department from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing the 2016 rule on importing sheep, goats, and related products. The pause would start on the day the bill is enacted and would continue until one year after the Agriculture Secretary submits a required report. The Secretary would do a study and submit that report to several House and Senate committees no later than one year after enactment. The study would estimate meat and live-animal imports, forecast 10-year demand by State and region, assess COVID-19 market effects, evaluate impacts on supply, prices, producers, exports, competitiveness, consumer confidence, herd health, cross‑species disease risk, estimate foreign government payments to their producers, and identify any other negative effects.
