Faster 2024–2025 payments, but offsets apply to counties
The law requires the Treasury to pay all Secure Rural Schools amounts for 2024 and 2025 within 45 days after enactment. If a county already got a 50% payment for that year, its final county payment is cut by that same amount. If a State already received a 25% payment before enactment, the State payment is reduced by each county’s share of that payment. Counties keep the same payment election they used for 2023 for both 2024 and 2025, so no new election is needed.
Rural schools program extended; one pilot ends
The law keeps Secure Rural Schools payments and related authorities in place through 2026. It also extends special-project work on Federal land and county spending authority through 2028 and 2029. However, it ends one Resource Advisory Committee pilot paragraph, removing that option for committees and counties.
