VA benefits briefing for service members
This bill would add a standardized, one-hour VA benefits presentation to preseparation Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The Secretary of Veterans Affairs would review and approve the presentation with veterans service organizations that help with Benefits Delivery at Discharge. The Secretary would submit the presentation to the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees at least 90 days before it starts. Where available, a recognized veterans service organization representative or an authorized individual would help present. The presentation would explain how a veterans service organization can assist with filing a claim, may not encourage joining a particular group, and would be limited to one hour. Each year the Secretary would report which organizations participated, how many service members attended, and any recommended changes.
