Help for retired officers after targeted attacks

If enacted, this would let certain retired law enforcement officers qualify for the federal Public Safety Officers' Benefits program. A retired officer who left service in good standing, paid or unpaid, would qualify if death or permanent and total disability was the direct result of a personal injury from a targeted attack because of their service. It would take effect on the date it becomes law. It would apply to claims already pending with the Bureau of Justice Assistance and to new claims after that date. It would also apply to targeted attacks that happened on or after January 1, 2012.
