Focus national attention on the Black maternal health crisis and reduce deaths among Black women and birthing people. This resolution designates April 11–17, 2025 as the eighth Black Maternal Health Week, founded by Black Mamas Matter Alliance. It highlights that Black women are 2 to 3 times more likely than White women to die from pregnancy-related causes and had a 2023 maternal mortality rate of 50.3 per 100,000 compared with 14.5 for White women. The text notes over 80 percent of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable, cites leading causes such as obstetric embolism, hemorrhage, preeclampsia and postpartum cardiomyopathy, and calls for investments in community-led care, expanded postpartum coverage, support for midwives and doulas, action on maternity care deserts, and passage of H.R. 959, the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act.
