Center Black maternal health and the policies that drive it. This resolution would designate April 11–17, 2025 as Black Maternal Health Week and urge Congress to tackle the high maternal mortality and the social causes behind it.

  • Black women and birthing people would get focused federal attention on disproportionate maternal mortality and morbidity. The resolution notes a 2023 Black maternal mortality rate of 50.3 deaths per 100,000 live births.
  • Families and communities would be pushed into policy plans that target social determinants of health. The resolution highlights housing, transportation, nutritious food, clean air and water, safety from violence, and a living wage.
  • Community-based care and perinatal workers would be amplified and supported. It calls for more funding and an expanded workforce pipeline for diverse perinatal professionals and birth workers.
  • Policymakers would be steered toward human-rights, reproductive-justice, and birth-justice frameworks and urged to support the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act (H.R. 959). It also calls for Black women and birthing people to have active roles in decisions that affect them.
