Based on Hawaii Island and authorized as an institute in 1990, IPIF provides scientific data and technical assistance for tropical forest and watershed restoration. It develops wildfire mapping and mitigation tools, leads invasive species biocontrol research including work on Rapid Ohia Death and invasive strawberry guava, partners with local communities and universities, and supports conservation, rural jobs, and climate resilience. The Senate resolution reaffirms strong support for IPIF and its staff.
