Summary

Honors the West Virginians who lost their lives and those who were affected by the June 23, 2016 floods. The resolution marks the tenth anniversary of a series of thunderstorms that produced a thousand-year rainfall event. The storms killed 23 people, left more than 500,000 without power, caused about $1.2 billion in damages, destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and businesses, washed out roads and bridges, and wiped out multiple schools. It also recognizes the actions of first responders and neighbors and the long rebuilding and resilience of communities across the state.
