Play-based learning in public pre-K to 3

The law creates the Delaware Play to Learn Program for public pre-K through 3rd grade. Public schools include play-based learning across subjects. Early childhood educators set up child-directed and guided play each day, including movement, art, music, reading for pleasure, and games. The law defines who counts as early childhood educators and what play-based learning means. These rules apply only in Delaware public schools.

Teacher training and rules for play-based learning

Local school districts can offer ongoing training in play-based methods for pre-K to 3 educators. They can use existing state training programs. The Delaware Department of Education can issue rules to run the program. The law does not set funding or a timeline for these rules.
