Inmate appeals count when mailed

The law keeps the 30-day deadline to appeal a Superior Court criminal judgment. If you are an inmate filing on your own, your appeal counts as filed the day you put it in the prison mail. It is on time only if you mail it by the deadline, use prepaid first-class postage, and include a receipt from staff. Staff must give you a receipt with the staff name, the date and time, and your case number.
