Veterans and military families gain access

Delaware bans military-status discrimination at businesses and other places open to the public. This protects servicemembers, including reserve members, veterans, and servicemembers’ dependents. Covered places also cannot post ads or notices that express a preference based on military status.

Stronger rental protections for military families

Beginning December 31, 2028, landlords cannot deny or cancel rentals, or charge higher rent, because of military status. This covers servicemembers, veterans, and servicemembers’ dependents. Similar fair housing protections apply under interim rules before that date. Senior-only rentals remain allowed, but must be available to seniors regardless of military status.

Stronger job protections for military families

Delaware bans job discrimination based on military status, protecting servicemembers, veterans, and servicemembers’ dependents. Employers cannot discriminate in hiring, firing, pay, or job conditions. Job agencies, unions, and training committees cannot discriminate in referrals, membership, apprenticeships, or training. The law also protects against related retaliation. Existing exceptions for genuine job qualifications and valid seniority or merit systems remain.
