Housing bias banned for military families
The law bans housing discrimination based on military status. Sellers, landlords, brokers, and lenders cannot refuse, steer, or give worse terms, services, or ads. Appraisers may use non‑protected factors, but not military status. Access to listing services and broker groups must be equal. Until December 31, 2028, landlords cannot deny rentals or charge higher rent for military status; starting December 31, 2028, this protection continues permanently. Senior‑only housing rules still apply when allowed by law. The law defines military status to include servicemembers, veterans, and dependents.
Job bias banned for military families
Employers cannot discriminate because of military status in hiring, pay, training, promotion, or firing. Retaliation is also illegal. State classified service jobs must follow the same rules. A narrow exception lets employers consider military status only when it is a true and necessary job requirement. The law defines who is covered: servicemembers, veterans, and dependents.
No insurance bias for military families
Insurance companies cannot set higher premiums, lower policy values, or worse terms because of military status. If someone files a written complaint, the Department of Insurance serves the insurer and investigates. The law defines who is covered: servicemembers, veterans, and dependents.
No public place bias for military
Places open to the public cannot deny service or access because of military status. They also cannot post signs or ads that exclude military families. The law defines who is covered: servicemembers, veterans, and dependents.
Charter school access for military families
Charter schools cannot discriminate in admissions because of military status. Families tied to the military must get the same chance to apply and enroll. The law defines who is covered: servicemembers, veterans, and dependents.
