Mandatory training for charter school boards

The law requires every charter school board member to finish training at the start of their term. Topics include special education due process, open meeting rules under state law and FOIA, meeting best practices and rules of order, and the State Code of Conduct. The Department of Education sets standards and identifies approved trainings. Each charter school must offer the trainings and may use outside providers. The trainings must be offered online at least twice each year. The board president must tell new members about the requirement and, by January 15 each year, send a letter to any member who has not finished by January 1 after their election or appointment. These trainings and notices may be combined with the financial responsibility training under Section 1803.
