Up to $7,000 for volunteer responders' funerals

Beginning Oct 1, 2025, the State pays up to $7,000 for reasonable funeral costs of a deceased Delaware volunteer firefighter, ladies auxiliary member, or volunteer ambulance and rescue member. The member must have at least 10 years of active service in Delaware. Service with more than one qualifying group counts toward the 10 years. If the deceased was a state employee with a general funeral benefit, this chapter does not apply. But if their state benefit is under Title 11 §§ 8331, 8395, or 8846, or Title 29 §§ 5316 or 5546, the family can also receive this payment.
