March elections with staggered two-year terms

The Annual Municipal Election is the first Saturday in March each year, inside town. The Town Council must post election notices in five public places at least 10 days before the vote. The mayor and council members serve two-year terms. Districts 1 and 3 vote in odd-numbered years. Districts 2 and 4 vote in even-numbered years.

One councilor per district, new candidate rules

The Town Council has four members, one from each district. Each member must live in the district and is nominated and elected by voters in that district. To run for mayor or council, you must be at least 21. You must be a U.S. and Delaware citizen and have lived in Selbyville for at least two years. Council candidates must live in the district they want to represent.

Town moves to four voting districts

The law divides Selbyville into four election districts. The Town Council must set the first districts by January 1, 2026. Each district must be one connected area and nearly equal in population using the latest federal census. The new lines apply to the next Annual Municipal Election, including nominations. For other town business, the new lines apply when the newly elected council takes office at the Annual Meeting.
