Clear licensing terms for genetic counselors

The law standardizes who counts as a genetic counselor and which groups grant credentials. It defines ABGC, ABMGG, and NSGC, and says ABGC grants Active Candidate Status. It sets L.G.C. as the short title for a licensed genetic counselor. It defines what counts as a license and names the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline as the regulator. These clear terms help patients and providers verify qualifications.

Genetic counselors can order tests, use telehealth

The law sets what genetic counselors can do. Licensed counselors can review family and medical history, explain risks, and provide counseling. They can identify, coordinate, and order genetic tests defined in Title 16, §1201. They can provide visits by telehealth, as allowed by state rules. If they find a sign that needs medical assessment, they must refer you to a licensed physician.
