New teachers get credit for paraprofessional work

Delaware teachers and specialists hired after August 9, 2023 can get salary step credit for past paraprofessional work. Your service must be full-time as a Title I or instructional paraprofessional in a public school. You must have at least 4 years of that work and have held a permit from the Delaware Department of Education, or another state's equivalent, before becoming a teacher or specialist. For every 2 years of qualifying work, you get 1 year of experience credit on the state teacher salary schedule. This can move you up pay steps.
