Board oversees PD research and reports

Beginning July 1, 2026, an expert board directs Parkinson's research and consortium work. Most members must be movement disorder specialists with informatics or population health experience. Some members are appointed by legislative leaders; others by participating universities or medical centers. Members serve four-year terms, elect a chair for two years, meet at least twice a year, and need four members for a quorum. They serve without pay but can get travel reimbursement, and the board may set and amend its charter. By October 15 each year, the board reports research, findings, outreach, and plans to state leaders. Beginning October 15, 2028, the report must also include county-level incidence and prevalence, the number of registry records, and patient counts by age, gender, and race.

State Parkinson's registry and website

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida creates a statewide Parkinson's disease registry at the University of South Florida. The registry stores nationally recognized measures to help improve care and track patient outcomes. It operates only if the Legislature provides a specific appropriation. Beginning January 1, 2028, the Institute must run a public website for the registry with downloadable annual reports and consortium information. The site must be updated by January 1, 2029, and every year after.

Doctors and APRNs must report PD data

Beginning January 1, 2027, Florida-licensed doctors and advanced practice registered nurses who diagnose or treat Parkinson's disease must report to the state registry. They must regularly submit information that contains nationally recognized performance measures for Parkinson's and atypical parkinsonism. Starting the same date, they are protected from legal claims for providing this information to the registry.
