Beginning July 1, 2026, Class C or Class CC licensees must own or be employed by a licensed investigative agency, a combined investigative/security agency, or one of their branch offices. This tightens rules on working independently. The rule does not apply if you are exempt under the worship‑volunteer law and hold a Class C solely to keep a Class G firearm license.
Beginning July 1, 2026, you can volunteer as armed security at a church, mosque, synagogue, or other place of worship without a Chapter 493 license. You must be unpaid. You must serve on the worship site’s premises. This exemption does not apply to paid security work.
