Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida counts more offenses toward the “habitual traffic offender” label. A person is labeled if they have three or more convictions from separate acts within five years. The law adds three offenses: not stopping to help after a crash with death or injury; driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified; and driving without a valid license. Similar federal, out-of-state, or local laws also count. A prior suspension, revocation, or disqualification does not stop a conviction from counting. Convictions from the five years before July 1, 1972 also count if at least one later conviction exists.
