Martin County hospital help has limits

County-funded hospital help requires living in Martin County for at least six months before hospitalization. Your family’s gross household income must be no more than 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. You must be ineligible for Medicaid or another third-party payer program and have no more than $8,000 in liquid assets. Covered costs can include hospitalization within Martin County, administrative costs, and doctors’ services included in hospital care. The law does not set a payment amount.

Martin County ends welfare repayment liens

The law repeals Martin County’s authority under chapter 67-1702 to seek repayment of certain welfare funds. It also ends that chapter’s authority to place liens on real or personal property or property interests. The law does not say what happens to existing claims or liens.

Martin County redirects health care funding

The law creates a County Health Care Fund and directs revenue from the tax covered by this law into it. County commissioners must adopt an ordinance for distributing fund money among all licensed hospitals in Martin County. The fund can pay for qualifying residents’ hospital care, county-required health programs, and other health programs at commissioner-set service levels. Unspent money stays in the fund from year to year. Payments require checks signed by the board chairman and approved by a majority of county commissioners. The law removes the County Health Care Review Board and its role in recommending residents for hospital payments. It does not explain replacement application reviews or set funding amounts, hospital shares, or payment dates. The act took effect upon becoming law.
