Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Pay cap for inmate emergency transport

The law caps what the county pays for inmate emergency medical transport. If your transport service has no contract with Indian River County, pay is no more than 110% of the Medicare allowable rate. This applies to ground, water, or air ambulances that move inmates housed in the county detention center.

Pay rules for providers treating inmates

The law sets payment rules for care given to inmates housed in the Indian River County detention center. Noncontracting providers are paid no more than 110% of the Medicare allowable rate. If the provider reported a negative operating margin last year to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, pay can be up to 125% of Medicare. Noncontracting trauma centers get 175% of Medicare when treating inmates who are trauma alert victims under Florida law. Charges at a hospital run by Indian River County are not subject to these caps.
