Higher tax ceiling for district landowners

The law authorizes a higher maintenance tax ceiling for the Fort Pierce Farms Water Control District in St. Lucie County. The ceiling rises from $25 to $60 per acre only upon approval by a majority of landowners voting. The county’s Supervisor of Elections must hold the mail-ballot vote by December 31, 2026, using the district’s board-election voting method. The tax must use a uniform per-acre rate for all land, including parcels smaller than one acre. The new rules also limit annual rate increases to 10% over the prior year; the $60 ceiling is not an automatic tax increase.
