Beginning July 1, 2026, courts must jail anyone who pleads guilty, pleads no contest, or is found guilty of a dangerous crime. The person stays in custody until sentencing. No bond is allowed. This applies even if the person plans to appeal or has filed an appeal. It ends only if the plea or guilty finding is vacated, reversed, set aside, or otherwise undone. The law also updates which crimes count as “dangerous” for detention, naming offenses like arson, homicide, kidnapping, sexual battery, robbery, trafficking, and terrorism. Attempts and conspiracies are included. Judges use this list when deciding pretrial detention.
