Stricter ballot rules for candidates

To run as a party candidate, you must have been registered in that party for at least 365 days before qualifying starts and state this in your oath. Party candidates must also state they paid any party assessment. To run with no party, you must have had no party registration for at least 365 days before qualifying and state this in your oath. If a court finds you changed your name by petition within 365 days before qualifying, you cannot qualify or be on the ballot. This does not apply to name changes from a divorce, adoption, or a marriage certificate. Only a qualified candidate or a political party with candidates in the same race can file a court challenge in the county where the qualifying officer is based. If the court issues a final order that you did not meet these rules, you are disqualified and your name is removed from the ballot.
