Rural electric co-ops cannot ban fuels or appliances

Beginning July 1, 2026, retail electric cooperatives in Florida cannot charge fees or adopt bylaws, tariffs, or policies that ban energy types allowed under state law. They also cannot block the use of appliances, like stoves or grills, that run on those fuels. This applies only to cooperatives that sell electricity at retail. An appliance is a device that uses energy and is covered by the Florida Building Code or Florida Fire Prevention Code.
