Stronger warranty rights for farm equipment

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law sets clear warranty rights for farm equipment. Farm equipment includes any power-drawn, power-driven, or self-propelled machine used on a farm or to move farm products. You can report defects during the maker’s warranty or within one year after delivery, and the manufacturer or its authorized shop must repair for free. If the same problem was repaired three or more times and still exists, it counts as enough attempts, but only if you gave prior written notice and a chance to fix. If repairs fail, the maker must replace the machine or refund the cash price, including sales tax and registration fees. Makers can defend claims if the issue does not greatly reduce use or value, or if abuse, neglect, or unauthorized changes caused it. You can sue for losses, and other chapter 681 rights still apply.

Farm owners can store and fix equipment

Beginning July 1, 2026, you may store, maintain, or repair farm equipment on your farm if it is at least 50 feet from any public road. This rule overrides any local law to the contrary. It does not apply to equipment used in urban agriculture under s. 604.73(3).
