Beginning July 1, 2026, any Florida government that lets code inspectors wear body cameras must have a written policy. The policy must say who may wear cameras, when they can record, and how to store and release recordings. Inspectors on duty must be allowed to record any encounter with a member of the public. The government must train anyone who uses, maintains, stores, or releases cameras or recordings before they do those tasks. Recordings must be kept under Florida’s public records rules in s. 119.021, unless other law says otherwise. Agencies must review real-world camera use regularly to ensure it matches their policy. Chapter 934, the state wiretap law, does not apply to these inspector body camera recordings.
