Out-of-state podiatry help and telemedicine

Nonresident physicians and podiatrists fully licensed elsewhere can briefly give emergency or critical care in Guam when directed by a Board‑approved hospital or federal agency that takes full responsibility. A nonresident doctor or podiatrist can also consult by telemedicine with a Guam‑licensed doctor if they have no office in Guam, do not treat Guam patients, and do not give the patient a final written diagnosis or treatment plan. They may act as the receiving doctor in their own state and must follow all local and federal privacy laws.

New podiatry rules and ethics adopted

The law repeals the old podiatry rules and adopts new Guam Board of Medical Examiners rules for podiatry. It approves a Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for podiatrists, which the Board can change under Guam’s administrative law. Only people with the right license may use podiatry titles like “Podiatrist” or “D.P.M.”

Stricter credentials for podiatry licenses

To get licensed, you must have an MD, DO, or DPM from an approved school in the U.S., its territories, or Canada. The school must have been approved when your degree was granted. The Board checks national physician and podiatry databases to verify your education and any discipline history.

Podiatry now under Medical Board oversight

The Guam Board of Medical Examiners now licenses and disciplines podiatrists. The Board has eight members; at least six are Guam‑licensed physicians or surgeons, and one is a Guam‑licensed podiatrist. All members must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must have lived in Guam for the past five years.
