Beginning July 1, 2025, students qualify for a scholarship by completing Idaho’s public-school grades 9–12 curriculum at least one year early. For each year avoided, the award equals 35% of statewide per-pupil funding based on average daily attendance. Students must apply within two years after graduating from a public school. The money covers educational costs at Idaho public colleges and other public postsecondary schools, not just tuition and fees.
Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho community colleges can directly enroll homeschool students in Advanced Opportunities dual enrollment courses. Colleges must coordinate these enrollments with the State Board of Education. For eligible nonpublic-student dual credit courses, the state reimburses colleges or counties for out-of-district tuition, up to $50 per credit hour. The nonpublic program depends on separate state appropriations. Payments go to colleges or counties, so families are not guaranteed an equal tuition reduction.
Beginning July 1, 2025, students can use Idaho Advanced Opportunities funds for eligible college entrance and preliminary entrance exams. These exams are exempt from the general ban on funding the same exam more than once. The exception applies only to entrance exams eligible under the program.
Beginning July 1, 2025, failing a state-funded Advanced Opportunities course or exam blocks further reimbursements. To restore funding, the student must pay for and pass a course, or pay for an exam. Repeated and remedial courses and exams remain ineligible, except for eligible college entrance and preliminary entrance exams.
Beginning July 1, 2025, students who earn 15 college credits through Advanced Opportunities must identify their goals before earning more. Advisors must counsel students seeking dual credit about whether their intended college or other postsecondary school accepts those credits. Students get required guidance but face an added step after reaching 15 credits.
